Volunteer hours are flexible within those days and the experience will be rewarding. Give back to your community and show support to the senior population in Morris County! Interested volunteer candidates must be 18 years and older with a valid drivers license and a passion for helping others! Contact Community Support Services (Senior Services Dept.) at 973-361-5555, ext. 130.

As Interfaith Furnishings, a charity that provides furniture to the needy at no cost, seeks a benefactor to provide us new warehouse space. We want to thank the benefactors who have helped us in our last six years. Most recently, Blue Diamond Disposal Inc. has generously provided us a free dumpster for a weekend so that we could clear our warehouse of damaged furniture in preparation for our next move, saving us great expense. Over the years Marty’s Rent a Wreck has given us a special rate on our monthly truck, again at a great savings. There is no way we could have existed without the donation of warehouse space from our our former “landlords – Jeff Barnish, James Grecco. And now we are at that critical state where our continued operation is dependent on another generous donation of space. We need about 2500 square feet of space on the ground floor. If you have or know of such space, please contact Mary Jo Welch, 973-361-1666, as we have two months to find a new “home”. Thank you to all of those organizations and individuals who have helped us. They are worthy of your business and all of our gratitude.
Last year, we donated over 300 Easter baskets to the children of Holy Trinity Church in Passaic. Our goal this year is to provide at least that many again. At this point we will begin collecting items for the baskets: Candy-filled plastic eggs, medium size Easter baskets, chocolate bunnies, small Easter toys, cellophane basket bags and other new things that go in Easter baskets. Please encourage your kids to help out in this very important way. Bins will be available for drop-off during all Religious-Ed classes between now and April 10th. Also, you can drop off your donations when coming to Mass on the weekends. If you don’t have kids in our Religious Education Program but would like to help, please feel free to leave Easter items in the basket in the gathering space. This is one of our largest service projects of the year. Thanks in advance for your generosity.

What is the objective of the Social Concerns Committee?
The goal of the St. Matthew the Apostle Social Concerns Committee, as outlined in our mission statement, is to empower and facilitate the parish community to proclaim the Good News through practical works of justice, charity and peace by responding to the needs of God’s people. In any parish it is incumbent upon the community to monitor and coordinate all activities that require its membership to give sacrificially of its time, talent and treasure. Lack of coordination can overburden membership and waste valuable resources if the communities Stewardship is directed to too many activities or activities not aligned to Catholic social teachings. In recent years beginning with Pope John Paul II’s call to a New Evangelization in the Church our Diocese of Paterson has set evangelization as one of our major priorities in this time of the Church.
Evangelization literally means to “share the Good News” to invite men and women to welcome the good news of the message and person of Jesus Christ. Statistics tell us that the second largest religious group in the USA is “fallen away” Catholics. This is a challenge for all of us who are passionate about our faith and Christ and committed to His Church. Continue reading When Did You Feel Called to Be a Part of St. Matthew’s?
St. Matthew’s networking group will meet Thursday, May 7th at 7:30 PM at the church. All are welcome to attend to meet new people and discuss career strategies.
